Sci-Fi.com / Exposure broadcast animation, web launch
Challenge: USA Networks needed to launch a website to support Exposure, a program on the SciFi Channel. The site needed to meet a fixed budget and was under a tight deadline to launch prior to the Sundance Film Festival, as well as to coincide with the broadcast of a thematically related set of commercial spots. The site was expected to set a new standard for creative and technical innovation on the web. It needed to target an audience of young, digital filmmakers; drive return visits while requiring a minimal amount of maintenance. Solution: Catalyst produced SciFi Exposure as an affinity site where young, digital filmmakers could congregate, post their work, view the work of others and access content related to digital filmmaking, such as a daily live report from Sundance. The site design and the design broadcast spots were developed in tandem, adapting to and informing one another while remaining distinct to each media. The site was built to be fully dynamic with a futuristic skin superimposed over a robust site management tool that, since its launch, has been used to continually update the site content and roll out new features. The wow factor was provided by a 3D, animated, interactive interface -- a first for the web. The site and broadcast spots launched on schedule and on budget.
